Leadership Development Pathway for Supervisors - Leadership Development Pathway

Develop supervisors, team leaders and future managers into leaders people want to follow

Many businesses promote people because they are reliable, hardworking and technically good at the job.

But being good at the work is not the same as being ready to lead people.

Supervisors and team leaders are often expected to communicate clearly, raise standards, manage performance, handle difficult conversations, motivate others and represent the business — often without being given the development, confidence or structure to do it well.

That creates pressure for the individual and problems for the business.

When supervisors are not properly developed, teams become inconsistent. Standards slip. Communication breaks down. Difficult conversations are avoided. Senior managers spend too much time firefighting. Good people become frustrated. And the business misses the opportunity to grow future managers from within.

The LM Growth Leadership Development Pathway is designed to solve that problem.

It gives organisations a clear way to develop supervisors, team leaders, new managers and aspiring managers at every stage - from one-day practical workshops, through to a 12-week leadership influence programme, and then into deeper 12-month online academies.

The goal is simple:

To develop trusted leaders of influence - people who communicate clearly, raise standards, build strong relationships and create teams others want to be part of.

The LM Growth Leadership Development Pathway

The pathway is built around three levels of development.

1. One-day leadership training courses

These are practical, focused training days designed to solve specific leadership challenges.

They are ideal when your managers or team leaders need support with a particular skill, such as communication, coaching, accountability, difficult conversations or performance management.

One-day courses are useful for creating awareness, introducing practical tools and giving people immediate confidence in a specific area.

2. The Leader People Follow: Becoming a Trusted Person of Influence

This is the signature 12-week leadership influence programme for supervisors and team leaders.

It is the ideal starting point for organisations that want their people to step up from technical competence into trusted leadership.

This programme helps participants understand that influence is not about status, ego or self-promotion. It is about usefulness, trust and contribution.

For business owners, influence often means becoming visible, credible and commercially attractive in an industry.

For supervisors and team leaders, influence means something different.

It means becoming trusted, credible and useful enough that people seek your judgement, follow your standards and want to grow under your leadership.

The programme teaches supervisors and team leaders how to build earned influence through clarity, consistency, communication, contribution and relationships.

3. 12-month online academies

For organisations that want deeper, longer-term development, participants can continue into one of the 12-month academies.

The Online Growth Academy for New and Aspiring Managers supports new managers, aspiring managers and future leaders across all industries.

The Online Manufacturing Leadership Programme is designed specifically for manufacturing environments, where supervisors and team leaders need to balance people leadership, operational pressure, standards, performance and shop-floor reality.

Together, these programmes create a connected pathway from short practical training to long-term leadership growth.

The signature programme: The Leader People Follow

The Leader People Follow: Becoming a Trusted Person of Influence is a 6-module programme delivered over 12 weeks.

It helps supervisors and team leaders move beyond job title authority and become leaders people genuinely want to follow.

Authority says:

“People do it because I am the boss.”

Influence says:

“People follow because they trust my judgement, standards and intent.”

That is the shift this programme creates.

Participants learn how to build credibility, communicate with clarity, develop stronger relationships, raise standards and prepare for future management responsibility.

This is not personal branding for supervisors.

It is not about teaching people to promote themselves.

It is about helping them become the kind of leader others experience as clear, fair, reliable, courageous and genuinely invested in their success.

The 5 Ps of a Leader People Follow

The programme is built around a practical leadership model: The 5 Ps of a Leader People Follow.

Purpose

I know what kind of leader I am becoming.

Supervisors need more than a job description. They need a leadership purpose.

Participants explore questions such as:

What kind of leader am I becoming?
What do I stand for?
What standards do I expect?
How do I help my team win?
Why would people want to follow me?

They create a personal leadership promise:

“I help my team to ______ so that ______, by leading with ______.”

For example:

“I help my team to perform with confidence and consistency so that we deliver excellent service, by leading with clarity, fairness and calm accountability.”

This becomes their leadership identity.

Presence

I behave in a way that builds trust.

Leaders become known for how they behave repeatedly.

Presence is not about being loud, charismatic or senior. It is about being calm under pressure, fair with people, clear about standards, reliable with commitments and willing to have the conversations others avoid.

Participants learn how to build credibility through consistency, emotional control and professional behaviour.

Practice

I create habits and systems that improve performance.

Good leadership is not just personality. It is practice.

Participants learn how to create simple routines that make good performance easier to repeat.

This may include better handovers, team checklists, coaching rhythms, one-to-one templates, problem-solving methods, quality standards or recognition routines.

This shifts supervisors from thinking, “I personally work hard,” to “I build habits and systems that help others succeed.”

People

I develop strong relationships and help others grow.

Future leaders do not only manage down. They influence up, across and beyond their team.

Participants learn how to build trust with their team, their manager, peer supervisors, other departments, customers, senior leaders and external partners where relevant.

They also learn how to coach, listen, give feedback and develop others rather than becoming the person everyone depends on.

Progress

I make measurable improvements for the team and business.

Leadership development should create visible impact.

Participants identify practical improvements they can make in their team or area of responsibility.

This may include improving communication, strengthening accountability, creating better team routines, improving handovers, reducing repeated mistakes or building stronger relationships across departments.

Progress turns leadership influence into evidence.

12-week module breakdown

Module 1: What is leadership influence?

Participants learn the difference between authority and influence. They identify a leader they genuinely wanted to follow and explore the behaviours that created trust, respect and commitment.

Module 2: Define your leadership purpose

Participants create their leadership promise, values and standards. They identify three leadership non-negotiables, three behaviours they want to be known for and one behaviour they need to stop because it weakens trust.

Module 3: Become a trusted communicator

Participants learn how to brief a team, explain the why, listen properly, give feedback, communicate change and handle difficult conversations. Each person prepares a short leadership message on a real business issue.

Module 4: Build your leadership practices

Participants create one practical leadership asset, such as a team performance board, coaching checklist, handover process, weekly team rhythm or “what good looks like” guide.

Module 5: Build presence and credibility

Participants complete a reputation audit, exploring what they are currently known for, what they want to be known for and what evidence would prove it.

Module 6: Influence beyond your team

Participants map their key stakeholders and create a relationship plan to improve how they influence peers, senior managers, other departments and the wider business.

What participants produce

By the end of the programme, every supervisor or team leader will have:

A personal leadership promise.
A clear set of team standards.
A weekly communication rhythm.
One practical team improvement project.
A stakeholder relationship map.
A personal reputation goal.
A 90-day leadership influence plan.

This makes the programme practical, not motivational.

Participants leave with tools, actions and evidence of progress.

The 90-day leadership influence challenge

The programme can finish with a practical challenge:

Become the Leader People Follow: 90-Day Influence Challenge

Each participant commits to:

Improving one measurable team result.
Holding better one-to-ones or coaching conversations.
Sharing one useful lesson or improvement with peers.
Building one stronger cross-functional relationship.
Asking for feedback from their team and manager.
Presenting what they changed, learned and improved.

This creates evidence of influence, not just intention.

Who the pathway is for

The Leadership Development Pathway is ideal for:

Supervisors.
Team leaders.
First line managers.
New managers.
Aspiring managers.
Future leaders.
Manufacturing leaders.
Operational managers.
High-potential employees.
Businesses that want to grow managers from within.

It is especially useful for people who are technically strong but need to develop confidence, communication, accountability, relationships and leadership presence.

Delivery options

The pathway can be delivered through a combination of in-person, online and blended learning.

One-day courses are usually delivered in person for practical skills development.

The Leader People Follow can be delivered virtually over 12 weeks, with six 2-hour live sessions every two weeks.

The 12-month academies are delivered online, giving participants structured development over time.

For organisations that want deeper support, blended options can include live workshops, online sessions, coaching, action learning and manager check-ins.

Why this pathway works

One-off training can be useful, but it rarely creates lasting leadership behaviour on its own.

The pathway gives businesses a way to start where they are.

If a team needs immediate support, start with a one-day course.

If supervisors and team leaders need to step up, start with The Leader People Follow.

If the business wants to build future managers over time, continue into the 12-month academy.

This creates a joined-up development journey rather than a collection of disconnected training events.

Call to action

Your supervisors and team leaders are already shaping the culture, standards and performance of your business.

The question is whether they are being supported to do it well.

If you want to develop trusted leaders of influence — people who communicate clearly, raise standards, build strong relationships and create teams others want to be part of — the LM Growth Leadership Development Pathway can help.
